ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gordon is a retired cardiologist turned photographer. His medical career started with 13 years at Duke and ended in 1998 when he retired after 35 years of practice in Jacksonville. Florida. During those years he spent a lot of time in medical research, had a large practice, and was chief of Medicine at St Lukes Hospital, now a Mayo Hospital, for 25 years.

Retiring allowed him to start doing full time what he had been doing part time all of his life. Starting with a box camera as a youngster, and having a darkroom in high school, he had a lifelong love for photography. Nearing retirement he sold an old car he had and bought a used Nikon F4 and some lenses and started trying to build up a portfolio. When he joined the Jacksonville Camera Club, with his lifelong experience he thought he would run away with all of the ribbons and trophies. Not so. The expertise, quality and experience were so good in the club that he didn't win anything significant for several years. Then finally in 2002 and in 2003 he won the Photographer of the Year awards for acquiring the most points in competition for those years. Efforts since then have been in portfolio building and sales, leading to the establishment of this website which will start out with 1000 photos and grow as fast as pictures can be added.

Now totally digital he finds that the resolution he is getting is so much better than it was before. His current 12 and 14 mega pixel cameras produce detail that can be enlarged to great sizes. All materials are archival and if properly cared for, good for several lifetimes. He is doing all of the digital work and printing himself, so the output IS going to be good. If there is any problem, everything is 100% guaranteed.

He has a studio, but most of his time is spent outdoors. Recently he has concentrated on the swampscapes taken in the parks in Florida. Some favorites include Myakka State Park, Ocala National Forest and Fish Eating Creek.

Imaging has become a passion. Reproduction of the photographer's interpretation of a scene has always been a goal, and with his digital mastery, the goal is now actually more within reach. Production of fine art imagery, is becoming a larger part of the output, and in the future, may be more exciting than what we have now.
